Membership
Covenant membership is a commitment to one another—a willing pledge to guard, care, submit, support, and minister together for the building up of our church body.
STEP 1: MEMBERSHIP CLASS
The Membership Class has a three-fold purpose.
To provide an informal setting to learn what the pastoral staff and church believe on various topics. All are welcome, whether or not they are interested in membership.
To give an opportunity for potential members to become acquainted with an elder who can help them connect with one or more of the church’s ministries. Attending this class is a requirement for church membership.
To give an opportunity for any believer seeking membership to communicate their desire to the elders, to receive and work through a membership packet, and to eventually submit completed forms.
STEP 2: BE INTERVIEWED BY AN ELDER
If you decide to move toward membership, an elder will be assigned to meet with you. Goals for this interview are ...
To learn how the Lord saved you.
To confirm that you understand the meaning of church membership.
To confirm that there are no biblically warranted concerns with your joining GRBCA as a covenant member.
To answer questions or help you find opportunities to connect at GRBCA.
STEP 3: BAPTISM (IF NEEDED)
If you have not yet been baptized as a believer by immersion, baptism is the next step to proceeding toward covenant membership.
STEP 4: ELDER RECOMMENDATION AND CONGREGATION ACCEPTANCE
After you affirm our confession and covenant, the elders will recommend you for official membership at GRBCA to our congregation at any members’ meeting. Our congregation members will meet, and the candidate will be received into membership upon a two-thirds vote of acceptance. New members are formally welcomed into the church at the next Lord’s Supper Service.
If you are interested in membership at GRBCA, please contact the pastoral assistant.
